Digital Flat Panel Detector Battery Design

2020-04-07

A 14.8V / 4Ah lithium pack for the 1800R flat-panel X-ray detector, with shared I/O switching, fuel-gauge communication, and dual hardware/software protection.

Application host

The 1800R digital flat panel detector is a versatile flat-panel X-ray imaging device. It combines amorphous silicon thin-film transistors (TFT), photodiode (PD) arrays, and high-sensitivity cesium iodide (CsI) phosphor for medical diagnostic imaging, industrial non-destructive testing, and security inspection.

Thicker CsI phosphor and optimized low system noise (about 8 nGy equivalent) help maintain image quality at reduced dose. The effective imaging area is 17" × 17" (43 × 43 cm) for general digital radiography.

ATL4960123P-4S / 4Ah / 14.8V / 59.2Wh, with MCU fuel gauging, hardware protection, software secondary protection, and temperature, voltage, and current sensing.

1. Input and output
  • Shared I/O port with automatic charge/supply switchover
  • With mains available: power the host and charge the pack at the same time
  • Without mains: automatic 14.8V backup with no brownout restart of the host board
1. Protection thresholds
  • Cell overcharge protect / recover: 4.28±0.05V / 4.15±0.05V
  • Cell over-discharge protect / recover: 2.60±0.10V / 3.00±0.10V
  • Pack overcurrent (22 ms): 7–10A
  • Charge / discharge over-temperature (recoverable): 65±5°C / 75±5°C
  • Finished pack includes short-circuit protection
  • Target cycle life: 300–500 cycles (national charge/discharge standard)
  • Enclosure dimensions follow the host battery compartment

Design modules

  • Fuel-gauge communication: the MCU monitors pack data, estimates remaining capacity, and reports status to the host in real time
  • Combined software/hardware protection against overcharge, over-discharge, short circuit, overcurrent, and over-temperature
  • Protection IC for continuous cell monitoring within safe limits
  • NTC temperature sensing for charge and discharge thermal cutoffs
  • Cells: ATL 4960123P polymer, 4000mAh / 3.7V
  • MOSFET switching in the protection path
  • Metal contact interface to the host
  • PVC heat-shrink plus aluminum alloy enclosure

Emergency Fire Pump Power Battery Solution

2020-04-07

A 48V / 6Ah high-rate lithium pack that replaces bulky lead-acid or noisy diesel backups for portable emergency fire pumps—lighter weight, longer cycle life, and multi-layer protection.

Why lithium replaces legacy backups

Legacy emergency fire-pump power often relies on lead-acid batteries or diesel gensets. Lead-acid packs are heavy, low in energy density, and weak at high-rate discharge; diesel units are noisy and harder to site indoors. Lithium packs combine higher energy density, lower weight, longer cycle life, and high-rate capability, making them a practical replacement for many portable emergency loads.

Pack specification

48V / 6Ah NMC lithium-ion traction pack for fire-pump drive. Highlights include high-rate discharge, high continuous current, low self-discharge, strong deep-discharge capability, high charge efficiency, and low maintenance. Electrostatic immunity: Level IV.

1. Electrical design
  • Pack model: 18650-13S3P / 6Ah / 48V
  • Cell overcharge protect / recover: 4.3±0.25V / 4.15±0.50V
  • Cell over-discharge protect / recover: 2.80±0.08V / 3.00±0.10V
  • Pack overcurrent protection: 120A
  • Continuous discharge: ≤60A
  • Over-temperature protection (recoverable): 70±5°C
  • Finished pack: short-circuit and reverse-charge protection
  • Cycle life target: 500–1000 cycles
  • Outline: 310 × 210 × 120 mm (PVC wrap)

Protection architecture

  • PCM for overcharge, over-discharge, short circuit, overcurrent, and temperature protection
  • Protection IC for real-time cell monitoring within safe operating limits
  • Temperature switch trips near 75°C and recovers as temperature falls
  • Cells: 18650 / 2000mAh / 3.7V / 10C high-rate long-life grade
  • MOSFET switches keep load-side voltage stable under protection events
